Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Strength. Skill. Community. This is training that actually sticks.
Here at Spectrum Fitness and Martial Arts we have multiple programs to choose from! Whether you are a beginner looking to try out your first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class, or an experienced competitor with several years on the mats, we have a class that will fit your needs.
Our BJJ Program is designed to get you started enjoying the benefits of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu the right way! The most IMPORTANT skills NOT the most basic! You DO NOT have to be ‘in shape’ to join. In our classes your training will be fun so that learning is easy.
In your first class you will learn about our unique training principles:
-
Non-attribute based training to develop skills that work against bigger, stronger opponents.
-
Progressive resistance to learn safely and quickly.
FOR TRAINING YOU WILL NEED:
-
BJJ Gi
-
BJJ Belt
-
Rashguard
-
Mouth Guard (optional)
-
Groin Protection (optional)
Before training, remove all jewelry and be sure reasonable levels of personal hygiene are practiced (ie bathing, brushing teeth, trimming finger/toenails). Wash your uniform and shower as soon as possible after training.
Adult Karate
Our Karate program is designed to teach you effective, efficient Karate. Just like our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program, you DO NOT have to be ‘in shape’ to join. In our classes your training will be fun so that learning is easy.
We are a full contact karate school which bases its curriculum on Kyokushin Karate, Goju Ryu Karate and Kickboxing. We apply a scientific method of teaching using your body’s natural reflexes and progressive resistance; along with proven martial arts techniques, to give you a solid base of self-defense within the three primary ranges of combat (stand-up, clinch and ground).
We also apply the scientific method of teaching to our kids class using their natural reflexes meshed with proven martial arts techniques to give them a practical, applicable self-defense base. We couple this with the Play As the Way (P.A.W.) method of children’s karate instruction so they have fun while learning!
Typically, it takes between 5 – 7 years of dedicated, consistent training to attain the rank of black belt. Because we value the journey of creating knowledge and skill over belts we do not promote children under the age of 16 years old to black belt. Spectrum Fitness and Martial Arts is a proud affiliate of the United States International Federation of Kyokushin Karate (USA-IFKK) under 8th degree black belt Shihan Michael Monaco.
